Ninety-two judges, most of them certified KCBS judges, rated the award winning entries. Kennesaw’s Mayor Mark Mathews announced the contest winners in an awards presentation on Saturday afternoon.
The cooking contests were just some of the many activities that took place during the festival which attracted an estimated crowd of 45,000 people to Adams Park and the Ben Robertson Community Center in Kennesaw.
In addition to food vending, giant inflatables, a climbing wall, helicopter rides, parachuting daredevils and live music, on Friday, a total of 322 avid dodgeball enthusiasts “ducked, dove and dived” as they broke the Guinness World Record’s largest dodgeball game ever played. The game was co-sponsored by the City of Kennesaw and Kennesaw State University.
After the game, nine teams competed in a 6-on-6 dodgeball tournament. The winning team, Night Train, was comprised of players Denise Botelho, Keith Botelho, Ben Casella, Darren Crouitz, Mike Defusco, Michael Lipaui, David Tatum, Cory Thomason and Brian Watkins.
Two new events were also part of this year’s festival, both conducted by Kennesaw WiFi. The Guitar Hero challenge competition was won by 13-year-old Elijah Strobeck. He defeated runner-up Jacob Zimmerman in the final round to claim the grand prize of a PS3 game console.
In the KenneSong talent competition, six contestants were chosen by the judges to advance to the final round. They are Amy Sepke, Richard Benson, Grant McCloud, Jason Turner, Emily Priborkin and Sydney Wender. Each of their auditions is posted on the city WiFi site, www.kennesawwifi.com, where visitors to the site will vote for the winner. Five music professionals judged the competition: singer/songwriter Slim, dancer/rapper Tekaboo, singers NatStar and Sekay, and the CEO of Push Management, veteran music industry manager/producer DeWayne Martin.
