Backyard BBQ Cook Teams Wanted

On May 8, 2010, the North Cobb Rotary Club and the City of Acworth are hosting the 1st Annual  Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival at Cauble Park on Lake Acworth.  There are now openings for up to 36 backyard cook teams. So, if you think that your BBQ is the best and want to prove it, here’s your chance.

The Smoke on the Lake Backyard BBQ Festival is entirely a completion for amateurs who love to cook great BBQ and have never won a sanctioned event in any of the categories they are entering Smoke on the Lake in.

You don’t have to have expensive equipment or a degree from a culinary school to enter the Backyard Cook-off; all you need is a grill, some charcoal and your own secret recipe. With a low entry fee that all goes to charity and a variety of categories to choose from, the Backyard Competition is perfect for church and civic organizations, or just you and couple of friends who love to cook out.
The entry fee of $200 per team of 4 cooks is tax deductible and allows you to enter in each of the following categories: Pork Butts/Shoulder, Pork Ribs, Chicken and Anything Goes (Most Creative BBQ Item )

In addition to entering into the four categories, you automatically will be entered into the Grand Championship and may also enter into our  Peoples Choice Category.

THE PEOPLES CHOICE CONTEST

Cook Teams Information
Each team may also compete for the coveted People’s Choice award, where the public chooses the best tasting barbecue by voting with their tickets. There is no fee charged to a cooking. See attached cook team rules in this section and under forms. 

The People’s Choice Award will be given out for the best tasting barbecue based on visitors by voting with their tickets. There is no fee charged to a cooking team to enter the People’s choice contest. Two 8 pound Boston Butts will be prepared. One butt will be donated to each team courtesy of Findley’s Butcher Shop in Acworth and the team must also purchase another 8-10 pound butt. The People’s Choice meat must be prepared and cooked by each team entering the contest.  The Rotary Club of North Cobb will sell People’s Choice Tickets at $5 for 5 tastings and the purchasers will present you with their tickets for a tasting size portion and each ticket  will be placed in a jar at your booth. At 3:30pm the jars will be picked up and the tickets counted prior to the awards.

PRIZES

Cash Prizes for: Pork Butts/Shoulders Pork Ribs and Chicken

1st Place in each category: $250

2nd Place in each category: $150

3rd Place in each category: $100

The Grand Champion, the Grand Reserve Champion and the People’s Choice Winner will each receive a brand new Primo Grill.

The winner of the Anything But will receive a trophy for Bragging Rights.

Prizes will also be awarded from other Rotary Clubs, neighborhoods, churchs and other groups where 5 or more teams are entered. The winning team in each category will be based on the overall score.
